Information about the regions of the South Pacific.
Australasia
The Australasian region is usually considered
to include Australia, New Zealand, and their
nearby islands.
Melanesia
The South Pacific region of Melanesia includes
the Fiji islands, New Caledonia, New Guinea,
Norfolk Island, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu,
the Maluku Islands, the Bismarck Archipelago,
and the islands of Flores, Nauru, Sumba, and Timor.
Micronesia
The South Pacific region known as Micronesia
includes Guam, Kiribati, the
Marshall Islands, the Fedeated
States of Micronesia, Nauru,
the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau,
and Wake Island.
Polynesia
The region of the South Pacific known as
Polynesia includes American Samoa,
Western Samoa, the Cook Islands, Tonga,
Pitcairn Island, Easter island,
and French Polynesia including the
Society Islands, the Tuamotu Archipelago,
the Austral Archipelago, and the Marquesas.
New Zealand is sometimes included in
Polynesia and sometimes in Australasia.
